Jatiya Party-backed candidate Abdul Malek Faruk has been elected as Jokiganj Pourashava mayor.
Returning Officer and also Upazila Nirbahi Officer Titon Kisha formally announced the poll result at 5:30pm on Saturday.
Faruk bagged 2,296 votes while his rival Abdul Khaleq got 1,555 votes.
A total of 7,300 voters out of 10,130 casted their votes.
The vote casting rate was 71%, said the UNO.
The seat fell vacant following the death of mayor Anwar Hossain Suna Ullah on July 20.
