In a bid to expand the popularity of swimming in the country, the Bangladesh Swimming Federation (BSF) will organise the RMM Group 27th National Swimming and Water Polo Championship at the newly constructed Gopalganj Swimming Pool and Gymnasium complex from October 20.
A total of 500 swimmers from 65 teams including districts, divisions, BKSP, universities, education board, services and swimming clubs are expected to compete in the four-day event. The swimmers will fight for 19 gold medals.
BSF president and chief of Bangladesh Navy, vice admiral M Farid Habib will inaugurate the competition as the chief guest.
Sponsors RMM Group has provided a purse of Tk1.5m to the federation for the apex swimming competition of the country.
In the press conference held at the Bangladesh Olympic Association auditorium yesterday, BSF general secretary Rafizuddin Rafiz said they will also organise the Bangabandhu SAARC Swimming next year and they have appealed to the government for the renovation of the electronic scoreboard at Mirpur.
BSF joint secretary BM Saif and chief financial officer of RMM Group Premagshu Sarkar were also present on the occasion.
