Student killed, 35 injured in Sylhet road accident

A college girl has been killed and 35 others have been injured as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Saat Mile under Dakshin Surma upazila in Sylhet.

The deceased is Ruby Begum, a class XI student of Nurjahan Memorial Women's College.

College's Principal Zilur Rahman Soyeb said: “A college bus collided with a lorry and plunged into a roadside ditch on its way to the campus around 10am on Thursday, leaving 36 people injured.”

“Ruby succumbed to her injuries when the injured were taken to North East Medical College Hospital,” he said.

Dakshin Surma police station Officer-in-Charge Md Mursalin said: “Angry locals blockaded Dhaka-Sylhet highway till 12pm. Later, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.”
