A mother has committed suicide after killing her two children by giving them poison at Baorkhola village under Barakanda union of Meghna upazila in Comilla.
The deceased are Rekha Akhter, 27, wife of Alamgir Hossain, and their two children Sumaiya, 8, and Emon, 5.
Officer-in-Charge of Meghna police station said: “Alamgir is an auto-rickshaw driver. Rekha and her husband had a long quarrel over poverty.”
“Rekha killed her children giving them poison and committed suicide by taking insecticide on Wednesday noon when Alamgir was out of the house,” he added.
The official said Alamgir is under police custody for primary investigation and the corpses were sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Sab Miah, member of Barakanda Union Parishad said Alamgir and her wife quarreled over their poverty on Tuesday night. Following the dispute, Rekha killed her two children and committed suicide herself.
