Rapid Action Battalion personnel have arrested the perpetrator in Group Four Security (G4S) Services money theft case from Rangamati.
The arrestee is G4S security guard Shahidul Haque Shantan, 24.
RAB 7 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Mista Uddin said: “Acting on a tip off, we arrested Shantan from Rangamati sadar around 7am on Wednesday.”
Shantan was produced in a press conference at RAB 7 headquarters in Potenga around 11:30am.
In the press conference, Shantan admitted that he stole the money from G4S vault.
"G4S did not pay my salary and two Eid bonuses. I stole the money from that grievance," Shantan said.
He claimed: "I did not stole the money for misappropriate it. I had decided to distribute the money to the poor."
He also alleged that the securities company do not pay salaries to its employees regularly.
However, G4S high official Tarique Mansur denied the allegation.
Avoiding direct answer from reporters' query on the issue, he said: "We are looking into the matter. We will organise a separate press conference to brief media about the incident."
Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) recovered Tk29,950,000 which was stolen from Chittagong city’s office of Group Four Security (G4S) Services Bangladesh Private Limited in the early hours of Sunday.
