A 13-year-old girl attempted suicide in the capital yesterday as she thought she would never meet Dev, the popular film actor of India’s West Bengal, who she is infatuated with.
The teen jumped off from the roof of the four-storey Jurain Government Primary School where her younger sister studies, but fell on the roof of a two-storey building inside school premises.
The school teachers rescued and admitted her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors said she had received injuries on her left hand while her left leg was broken.
The sixth grader became infatuated with the Tollywood star after watching his films on Indian satellite channels. She decided to commit suicide as she became certain that her feelings would not be reciprocated.
Asked why she tried to kill herself, the girl said she hoped that media stories about her suicide would let Dev know about her.
Doctors said after providing treatment the girl would be referred to a psychiatrist as she might have been suffering from mental disorders.
