An engineer of a private steel mill has remained missing since Monday morning after falling from a ship at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port.
Hafizur Rahman, 28, son of Khalilur Rahman, hailing from Begumganj of Noakhali, joined Kabir Steel Re-Rolling Mills Ltd as a junior electrical engineer a year ago.
Confirming this, Patenga police station officer-in-charge (OC) Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed said Hafiz's cousin Delwar Hossain filed a general diary with them in this regard.
The case in brief is that Hafiz went to the outer anchorage on an official duty at MV Jahan Brothers, a ship of the steel mill company, on Monday around 11am.
He fell into the deep sea while getting on the ship and drowned.
Police and coast guard have ever since been conducting rescue drives at the outer anchorage, but could not trace him out until filing of this report at 6:50pm.
