Soon after the announcement that Brac University Professor Dr Piash Karim's body would be taken to Shaheed Minar for showing respect, people from different social and cultural groups condemned the decision and called protest programme.
Calling Piash Karim as “a man against the liberation war,” Slogan 71, an organisation of Dhaka University students, announced a sit-in demo in front of Shaheed Minar from Wednesday morning.
They also announced to resist any attempt to bring the body of the professor there, citing that “He made negative remarks on Shahbagh Movement and was against the war crimes trial.”
President of Slogan 71 Bhuiyan Md Fayezullah Manik told Dhaka Tribune that Piash Karim never talked in favour of the liberation war.
“We cannot accept that such man can be brought to the sacred Shaheed Minar.”
The cultural activists of many organisations expressed their “angry” reactions on different social media platforms.
