4 secretaries served show cause notices

The Ministry of Public Administration has issued show-cause notices to four secretaries over their alleged involvement in the forgery in securing freedom fighters certificate.

The four officials are – Health Secretary Neaz Uddin Mia, Public Service Commission Secretary AKM Amir Hossain, former liberation war affairs secretary (now OSD) KH Masud Siddiqui and former joint secretary of Liberation War Affairs Ministry Abul Kashem Talukder.

Public Administration Ministry Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser told the Dhaka Tribune: “The three secretaries and a joint secretary were asked to respond the show-cause notice within 10 working days.”

On May 11, the Public Administration Ministry received letters from the Anti-Corruption Commission which asked the ministry to take action against four secretaries and a joint secretary for their involvement in the forgery.

The ACC had sent letters to the ministries of liberation affairs and the public administration to take steps against five persons, including the four officials, who are now in service.

The Public Administration Ministry would take action against them only after getting the explanations from the government high-ups in accordance to the public servants (code of conduct and discipline) rules, Kamal Abdul Naser also said.

The government has so far scraped freedom fighters’ certificates of 182 government officials this year, since they were obtained through forgery.
