Eight people have been killed and 29 others injured in seperate road accidents on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Comilla.
Of the deceased, one has been identified as Jamal Ahmed Sohel, 43, manager of Brac Bank Baddarhar branch.
In Chauddagram upazila, seven people were killed and 29 others injured when a passenger bus collided head-on with a truck near Miabazar area in the morning.
Miabazar Highway Police Camp-in-Charge Sub inspector Shahabuddin said: “The accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound truck collided head-on with a Chittagong-bound bus from Gaibandha around 5am, killing seven people including the truck driver and his helper and two women and a minor girl, on the spot and injuring 30 others.”
The injured people were taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital and Chauddagram Health Complex. Another injured person died at the health complex later, said the SI.
Another woman has been killed due to a head-on collision between two buses at the sadar upazila area on the highway around 6am.
The traffic on the busy highway was disrupted for half an hour due to the incident.
