Road accidents claim lives of six

At least six people were killed in separate road accidents that took place in Khulna,  Lakshmipur and  Thakurgaon.

In Khulna, four persons have been killed in a collision between a BRTC bus and a human hauler on the Khulna-Jessore highway yesterday afternoon.

Police said the Jessore-bound BRTC bus from Tungipara of Gopalganj had collided head-on with the battery-run three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction in front of the BGB Camp at Goalkhali around 3pm, leaving easy-bike driver Elias Hossain Babu, 30, its passengers Shahidul Islam, 42, Siddiqur Rahman, 40, and Abdul Aziz Sheikh, 41 dead on the spot.

Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

They also seized the bus but its driver and his helper managed to flee the scene. The accident also disrupted traffic on the highway for half an hour.

In Lakshmipur, a college student was killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision between an auto-rickshaw and a pickup van at Bhabaniganj under sadar upazila on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Abu Jahed Anik, a first year student of Lakshmipur Government College.

Sub-Inspector of Lakshmipur sadar police station Zillur Rahman said a CNG-run auto-rickshaw had collided head-on with a pickup van in front of Chowdhury Bari around 8:30pm, leaving Anik dead on the spot and four others injured. The injured were admitted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital.

In Thakurgaon, one person was killed and 20 others killed in separate road accidents yesterday.

Local sources said Arifa Akter, 9, a resident of Senihari village, was crushed under the wheels of a pick up van at Haripur.

Meanwhile, 20 people were injured in separate road accident in the area.
