A mobile court has sentenced one year jail to four fishermen in Kushtia for catching Ilish with current net in the Padma river.
The fishermen are Sayeed alias Tikka, 22; Lavlu Mondol, 25; Mahidul Malitha, 22; and Motahar Ali, 40.
Acting on a tip-off, a mobile court team led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Azad Jahan conducted drive at Talbaria ghat around 8am and detained the four fishermen.
A 10-metre current net and Jatka fishes were also seized from their possessions.
Fishermen are catching Ilish across the country although the government has imposed an 11-day ban on netting, sales and transportation of the fish.
Fisheries Department imposed the ban from October 5 with a view to ensure safe spawning of the popular fish during the peak breeding period.
