Two persons including a woman have been killed and 50 others injured in a clash between two rival groups at Bejura village of Madhobpur upazila in Habiganj.
The deceased are Rina Akhter, 17, daughter of Khorshed Ali, and Jalal Mia, 70, of the village.
Quoting locals, Assistant Superintendent (South) of Habiganj police Sajjad Ibn Raihan, said: “There is a longstanding rivalry between Enayet Mia and Mamun Mia of the village. Following the rivalry the two groups engaged into a clash with local weapons on Thursday afternoon.”
He said Rina died on the spot and 50 other people injured.
Of the injured, Jalal died on way to the hospital.
The official said being informed, a police team led by the additional superintendent of Habiganj police, Shahidul Islam reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
“We are trying to arrest the criminals. Besides, additional police have been deployed in the area,” he added.
