Port city still in holiday mood

Residents of Chittagong city are in relax mood till yesterday and they were passing their times with their near and dears.

Though yesterday was a working day, presence in offices, banks, business organisations and factories and other institutions was low.

A good number of officers and employees are on additional leave to spend more time with their near and dear ones at their village homes and it is expected that city would get its normal look by Sunday.

Sources at the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) sources said about 50 lakh out of 70 lakh city dwellers left the city on the occassions of Eid-ul Azha, Durga Puja and Prabarana Purnima.

Most of the city roads were found almost vehicle-free and the bustle of city life has not seen for the last six days, said the sources.

People who celebrated Eid in the city thronged different recreational locations. Though more than half portion of the city dwellers are outside the city before the holidays, the amusement parks and recreational centres were seen full with crowd.

The city people largely crowded in the Patenga sea beach area with thousands of people visiting the place every day.

Apart from the sea beach, crowd was also found in Naval Academy, Butterfly Park, Foy’s Lake, Chittagong Zoo, Shwadhinata Park, Halishahar Beri Badh (embankment) sea shore, Children’s Parks at Agrabad and Kazir Dewri and Uttar Kattoli sea shore.

Outside of the city, people are gathering in Sitakunda’s Eco Park, Mirsarai’s Mahamaya, Anwara’s Parki beach and Fatikchhari’s tea gardens.

Nur Mohammad, a computer engineer, said the number of recreational places should be increased in the city to meet the demand of the myriad of people.
