13 suspected robbers killed in Khulna ‘gunfight’

Thirteen suspected forest bandits have been killed in separate "gunfights" between the law enforcers and them during raids in Sundarbans' Khulna range.

The deceased are the members of Kashem gang.

Paikgacha police station Officer-in-Charge Akkas Ali said: &ldquot: "Eleven bandits were detained in the morning during a gunfight, which left two members of the gang killed. On the basis of their information, police went to recover arms in Hadda area of Sundarban in the afternoon.”

“Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the other bandits in the area opened fire on them, promoting the law enforces to fire back. At one point, 11 bandits escaped from the police custody. Later police recovered their bullet-riddled body from the spot.”

Earlier in the day, two of the bandits were killed while trying to abduct a teacher.

Police held the 11 other bandits of the gang and recovered nine guns and 32 rounds of bullets from the spot. 

Md Matiar Rahman, president of Deluti union unit BNP, said: “The bandits came to abduct Ziton, elder brother of the college teacher. But they abducted the teacher as they could not find his brother. They were demanding a huge amount of extortion from Ziton.”
