A septuagenarian has been burnt alive and a child sustained burn injuries when a fire broke out in a thatched house in Mirsarai upazila in Chittagong early Friday.
The deceased is Fatema Begum, wife of late Abul Kashem and the injured is Rasheda Begum Priyanka, 13, daughter of Abu Taher.
Mirsarai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Asraf Hossain said the fire broke out at the house of one Abu Taher at Muradpur area of Abur Hat under Katachara union of the upazila from the oven of the kitchen at around 1am, leaving the woman burnt alive on the spot and the girl injured.
Family members and locals doused the flame and rushed the girl to the upazila health complex, said the UNO.
