Five passengers of United Airways yesterday filed a Tk50 crore compensation suit against the airliner and seven others as they failed to go to Malaysia on September 24 following a flight cancellation.
Other defendants in the case include the airliner’s chairman, managing director, manager (administration) and manager (operations), managing director of Air Star Travels and Tours, the civil aviation and tourism secretary and the chairman of the civil aviation.
The case, however, mentioned no names.
After filing the case, Dhaka First Join District Court Judge Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan fixed October 16 for the hearing on whether it will accept the case or not.
The five plaintiffs are Abu Bakar Siddique, a member of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry; his wife Nargis Akter, a businesswoman; Mokbul Hossain, proprietor of Weaving and Fabrics Ltd; Sohanur Rahman Selim, owner of Selim Enterprise; and Rafiqul Islam, editor of a daily newspaper Biddasagor.
Plaintiffs mentioned in the case statements that on September 21, they bought air tickets for Malaysia on September 25 for business purposes. But, they could not fly as the airlines cancelled their scheduled flight which caused them huge financial losses.
