At least three people have been killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong’s Anwara and Sitakunda upazilas on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Md Jakir Hossain, Md Hamid, 16 and Md Rifat, 18, said police sources.
In Anwara upzila, two people were killed when a cement laden truck rammed a bicycle at Borkol road area of the upazila at around 2:30pm.
Sub-inspector (SI) Nimai Chandra Pal of Anwara police station said a Barkol area- bound cement laden truck of Diamond Company rammed the bicycle carrying Jakir and Hamid in Uchuya area, leaving Jakir dead on the spot and another injured.
Hamid was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the on-duty doctors declared him dead, said the SI.
Jakir and Hamid were the workers of a tea stall at Anwara, said SI Nimai adding that police arrested truck driver Abul Kalam from the spot in this regard.
A case was filed in this connection while the bodies of the deceased were sent to CMCH morgue for autopsy.
In Sitakunda upazila, Rifat was killed and three others were injured in a road accident in Sibpur Rastar Matha area of the upazila.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mahfuzur Rahman, duty officer of Sitakunda police station, said Rifat was killed as a bus collided with CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the area at around 3am.
The injured were sent to CMCH, said ASI.
