The students of Gaibandha Government College have chosen to register their protest in a way that may appear naive at first sight but proved effective in conveying the message.
The students led by Somajtantrik Chhatra Front Gaibandha unit, planted rice seedlings on the muddy surface of the field that remain flooded even after a small rainfall.
Hedayetul Islam, a student of the college said: “Students of the college have been suffering for a long time because of the water logging in the field.”
The protesting students demanded immediate measures be taken for building a proper drainage system in the field.
Following the protest, the college authority and local administration have reportedly taken quick steps to resolve the problem.
Md Jahedul Islam, principal of Gaibandha Government College, said: “A meeting with the college authority will be held to take the necessary steps, preventing water logging in the field.”
