IS recruiter British citizen held in capital

A Bangladeshi-origin British citizen has been detained in the capital for his suspected involvement with Islamic State (IS).

The arrestee, Saimun Rahman alias Ibne Hamdad, has reportedly been involved with the IS's activities as a recruiter of militants in Bangladesh for the last six months.

Acting on the information provided by five suspected IS militants, who were arrested from the capital on September 24, the law enforcers picked Saimun up on Sunday night.

According to them (detained IS members), the militants had a plan to conduct massive subversive activities in Bangladesh, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman.

He said: “Saimun, who has been detained from the capital's Kamalapur area, came here to recruit militants for the extremist group.”

He said details regarding the matter would be disclosed in a press conference later in the day.

Islamic State is a Middle East-based radical Islamist group that has seized large swathes of territory in eastern Syria and across northern and western Iraq.

On Friday, DB police arrested another suspected member of IS at Purana Paltan area.
