A worker has been killed and four fire fighters have been injured in a devastating fire at the godown of Mega Yarn Dyeing Mills Ltd at Sardaganj Gobindabari in Gazipur early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain, an operator of the factory.
He lived at Munnunagar area of Tongi of Gazipur city.
The injured were given primary treatment at a nearby clinic.
The fire broke out on the 3rd floor of the nine-storied building in the Mega Yarn Dyeing Mills Ltd at around 3:35am, said Apurba Bal, Kaliakair fire service in-charge.
The fire service sources said 10 fire fighting units from different fire stations including Tongi, Kaliakoir of Gazipur, EPZ of Savar, Dhamrai and Dhaka Headquarters rushed to the spot.
They brought the fire under control at around 9am after fighting for about five hours.
While fighting with the fire, an operator of the factory Anwar Hossain died of suffocation, Dr Md Monir Hossain, the on-duty doctor of Gazipur Sadar Hospital, confirmed about the death to the Dhaka Tribune.
Another four fire fighters were injured in the fire.
The reason behind the blaze could not be ascertained and the amount of loss also couldn’t be estimated yet.
