Rally held in demand of eighth wage board

The leaders of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) held a protest rally yesterday at Chittagong Press Club to implement a 10-point demand.

CUJ leaders declared that they will move towards tougher movement from October 15 if the eighth wage board is not implemented soon and if their due salary is not paid within October 15.

The journalists’ body also announced that they would organise stern movement from October 1 if the owners do not pay Eid bonus and salary by September 30.

Moreover, if any journalist or news organisation employee is fired during the on-going movement of CUJ, journalists of that news organisation will go for work abstention.

The 10-point demand includes- stop attack on journalists, pay due salaries, implementation of eighth wage board, to introduce separate wage board for TV journalists and others.

Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul was the chief guest in the rally which was presided over by the CUJ President Ezaz Yusufi. Both BFUJ and CUJ expressed their solidarity and announced that both parties will work jointly to achieve the rights of journalists.

BFUJ Vice President Abu Taher Mohammad, Joint Secretary General Asif Siraz, CUJ General Secretary Hasan Ferdous, Vice President Ratan Kanti Debashis, former Presidents M Nasirul Haque, Mostaq Ahmed, Shahid Ul Alam, former General Secretaries Reaz Haider, Nazim Uddin Shaymol, Chittagong Press Club General Secretary Mohsin Chowdhury, Photojournalist Association President Didarul Alam and Chittagong University Journalists Association President Humayun Masud spoke in the rally.
