A blind youth spreading the light of education

A visually-impaired youth in Thakurgaon named Abdul Aziz from Sandhari village in the district's Ranishankail upazila was born blind in one eye, he lost his other eye while he was doing honours in mathematics at Carmichael College in Rangpur. He could no longer continue his education. He had achieved a GPA-4.6 in SSC in 2004 and GPA-5 in HSC in 2006

A determined Aziz, however did not allow this disability, or the poverty become a barrier in his life.

He set up a grocery shop and a coaching centre in his village, showing a strong determination in him. He however considers this coaching centre as a school because he provides free education there. Visually-impaired Aziz said his original goal is to spread education, not earn money.

When Aziz started this school, there were only 22 students and now that figure stands at 118, he said, adding that his students score very well in the PSC and JSC exams. A good number of of them earn a GPA5 in both the certificate-earning exams every year.

Though he is blind, he can teach almost any subject. He also can teach by writing on the blackboard, which he has earned through practice. His colleagues help him go through exam papers.

Doctors said Aziz could get back sight if he got the right treatment. But this treatment is very expensive for which charitable and rich people must come forward to pave the way for him to get back his sight. Otherwise, it is totally impossible for him to be treated.

Assistant Professor at Ranisankail Degree College Anwarul Islam said he could contribute to humanity by spreading the light of education greatly if he got back his sight.

He added that the rich and kind should come forward to help him out of his blindness and help him contribute to society greatly. The visually-impaired Aziz does not get any disability allowance from the government.
