The Bangladesh national selectors have been going through a tough time lately chopping and changing the squad for the 17th Asian Games and their worries deepened further as Mukhtar Ali became the latest injury casualty. Owing to a back pain, Mukhtar is likely to be replaced by all-rounder Ziaur Rahman.
Mukhtar underwent an MRI scan and the report will be given out today. According to BCB sources, Mukhtar’s injury is not that serious, however, if the all-rounder is not rested properly the injury might hamper him in the future.
According to sources, the national selectors are likely to pick another all-rounder, Ziaur, to replace Mukhtar in the upcoming Asiad cricket tournament. The Bangladesh cricket team will leave for Incheon on Friday.
Off-spinner Sohag Gazi and paceman Al-Amin Hossain were earlier left out from the Asian Games squad after the duo were questioned over their bowling actions by match officials during the recently concluded tour of the West Indies. Shakib al Hasan and pacer Rubel Hossain were later included in place of the duo.
Mashrafe bin Mortaza will lead the Tigers in their pursuit of the title defence in the Asian Games. The Bangladesh cricket team, under the leadership of Mohammad Ashraful, clinched gold in the previous Asiad in Guangzhou four years ago.
