In celebration the 24th anniversary of the collapse of the Berlin Wall, a three-day-long film screening has been arranged by the Goethe Institut, Dhanmondi.
The programme will show “Barbara,” directed by Christian Petzold, “Sun Alley,” directed by Leander Haussmann, and “The Lives of Others,” directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. The show starts at 6pm, on September 21, 22, and 23 respectively.
The films on the separation between the former German Democratic Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as life in the two very different societies of the same nation which suffered from the East-West divide. As part of the process that tore the “Iron Curtain” apart in 1991, the occupied territories of East and West Germany were reunified as the Federal German Republic on October 3, 1990.
