Acting JMB chief among 7 arrested

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested seven members of banned Islamist militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), including its acting ameer from Turag area of Tongi on Thursday night.

The DB personnel also seized huge explosives from the possessions of the JMB members.

Of the arrestees, one was identified as Tasnim, acting ameer of JMB.

Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said: "Acting on tip off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area and arrested them along with a huge cache of explosives."

He said the JMB men were taking preparation to carry out massive subversive activities in the area.

In a press conference, DMP Spokesperson Monirul Islam said: “They have opened training centres in Chittagong and Bandarban.”

“In the primary investigation they said, they are taking training in kung fu and karate. They have have females in their groups,” he said.

The official said: “They have also formed an assassination group.”
