Mithu gets best director award for ‘Jonakir Alo’

Khalid Mahmud Mithu, director of “Jonakir Alo,” got the Best Director award for his movie at the Brasov International Film Festival (BRIFF), held between September 12 and 14 in Romania. Faridur Reza Sagar, managing director of Impress Telefilm Ltd, received the award on his behalf.

“Jonakir Alo,” starring Gazi Rakayet, Bidya Sinha Saha Mim, Emon and Kalyan, was screened on September 13 with Romanian subtitles. The story revolves around Kabita, who dreams of working for children’s welfare, and is torn between adopting a child and her responsibility as a daughter-in-law of a conservative family.

In the festival, the Best Film award went to “The Great Beauty,” Best Lead Male Actor to Alex Pettyfer for “Endless Love,” Best Lead Female Actor to Keira Knightley for “Anna Karenina,”  Best Screenplay to John Gatins for “Flight,”  Best Cinematography to Danny Cohen for “Les Misérables” and Audience Award to “Once Upon a Fish.”

Director Daria Trifu declared the third edition of the renowned nonviolent film festival closed. This year the theme of the festival was Africa. The awards ceremony was held on September 14.
