Two teenage siblings have reportedly committed suicide by hanging themselves from the ceilings of their rooms in the capital's Uttara area.
The deceased are Munmun, 18 and her younger brother Alimuzzaman, 15.
Their mother Joyshri Jaman told the Dhaka Tribune: “I have talked to them around 9pm and went outside for a work. When I came back home around 11pm, I found that my children had locked themselves in two separate rooms.”
Sub Inspector of Uttara West police station Mazedur Rahman said: “Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot and recovered the hanging bodies of the siblings at midnight. The investigation is underway. The reason behind the deaths could not be known immediately.”
“Later, their bodies were sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. A case was also filed in this connection.”
According to the relatives of the deceased, the siblings were upset as their parents were living separately.
They might have committed suicide due to frustrations, claimed relatives.
