Two Navy fighter jets crashed into the Pacific Ocean after they collided on Thursday while operating at sea, CNN reported.
One pilot was rescued and is in fair condition while being treated aboard the aircraft carrier.
A Navy cruiser, a destroyer and helicopters have been deployed in the search for the missing pilot, the US Navy said in a statement.
The two F/A-18 Hornets were operating aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, the Navy said.
"Initial reports indicate the two jets collided," a Navy official said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, the Navy said.
