Obaidul: Designs of metro rail's 16 stations finalised

The designs of 16 stations of metro rail across Dhaka city has been finalised, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said.

The minister made the statement while inspecting the streets near Moghbazar flyover on Thursday afternoon.

He also informed the reporters that the physical work of metro rail construction would start at the beginning of next year.

Obaidul Quader said the construction work of Moghbazar flyover's two parts, Moghbazar-Satrasta and Banglamotor-Mouchak, would be completed by June, 2015.

"The damaged roads near Moghbazar flyover are being repaired on emergency basis ahead of upcoming Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja," he said.

The minister stated that efforts for the development of the roads around the flyover will be continued during the construction works.

The government has already appointed a joint venture of three Japanese and one Australian companies as consultants for enhancing the organisational capacity of the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited under which the much-talked-about metro rail will be constructed.

On April 28, the draft of Metro Rail Act, 2014 was approved by the cabinet.
