The blockaders have locked a number of classrooms of different faculties at Chittagong University (CU) by putting “super glue” at the locks on Sunday the eighth consecutive day of indefinite strike at the campus halting the academic activities.
Earlier, the blockaders bombed on campus-bound shuttle train for the second time during enforcing their strike on Saturday.
Despite passing eighth days of the strike started from August 31, university authorities are still silent over the issue while the protesters have been carrying out spell of subversive activities in a bid to halt the academic activities.
The proctor of CU said they would take “stern action” against them who created the anarchy.
He said none was found from the demonstrating side for conversation over the issue.
Under the banner of “General Students of CU” Shibir men of CU unit allegedly have enforced strike demanding reopening the Shah Amanat and Suhrawardi Halls which were closed after clashes between Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Shibir men of university unit.
Campus sources said Shibir men allegedly locked a number of classrooms of Art and Humanities faculty, Science Faculty and Marine Science and Fisheries Institute in the morning halting the academic activities.
CU Proctor Siraj Ud Dowla said the strikers locked the classrooms by putting “Super glue” at the lock while the university staffs opened the classrooms in the office hour.
However, he claimed classes and examination remained normal while the presence of the students was poor.
Professor Dr Imran Hossain, dean of Arts and Humanities faculty told Dhaka Tribune “they put the “Super glue” at least 50 to 60 locks of the classrooms of different departments at the faculty while the dean office remained safe”.
Meanwhile, the teacher’s bus service of CU between the campus and city route have been plied with police escort while the shuttle train services moved on time.
Shah Amanat Hall was closed after a bloody clash between the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Islamic Chhatra Shibir men on January 12 earlier this year while Suhrawardi was announced to temporarily after a gunfight between BCL andShibir on August 24.
Both the closed dormitories were under control of Shibir men, said campus sources.
