Indefinite transport strike has been called off in Thakurgaon on Wednesday evening.
The decision came from a joint meeting among the deputy commissioner and Thakurgoan Bus Owners’ Association, Motor Transport Workers’ Union and Truck-Tank-Lorry-Covered-van Workers’ Association.
“The strike was called off following the assurance made by the deputy commissioner to settle the matter,” Ram Babu, president of the Bus Owners' Association of Thakurgaon, said.
The strike was causing immense sufferings to passengers particularly the Hajj pilgrims as road communications with Dhaka remained suspended since last Monday.
The district transport owners and workers have jointly enforced an indefinite transport strike again in five upazilas of Thakurgaon demanding ban on plying of unauthorised vehicles like nosimon, korimon and bhatbhoti on roads and highways in the district.
