Crude bombs blasted at CU

Two crude bombs have been exploded near in the Gate No 2 area at Chittagong University campus on Sunday noon.

Police also recovered a crude bomb from the campus premises while a strike imposed by the residential students of Shah Amanat Hall and Suhrawardi Hall under the banner of “General Students of CU” was underway on the CU campus.

Officer-in-Charge of CU Police outpost Md Moin Uddin said: “Two crude bombs were exploded from a procession at Chittagong University College area near Gate No 2 on the campus at around 12pm.”

“Being informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered an unexploded crude bomb,” the OC added.

“A section of students have also been seen bringing out a procession from the CU Central Student Union (CUCSU) building area on the campus during the strike.”

Earlier, activists of Chhatra Sena of CU unit and the strikers halted the campus bound shuttle train service and locked the room of station master at Sholoshahar Railway Station in the morning.

Station Master of Sholashahar Railway Station Md Shahbuddin said: “A section of CU students put his room under lock and obstructed the operation of university bound shuttle train threatening to attack on train.

“Later, considering the whole situation the train services were suspended,” the station master added.

CU Proctor Siraj-ud-Dowla said: “The authority will not tolerate further unrest on the campus. We will take necessary step to run the campus smoothly.”

CU closed the Suhrawardi Hall after a gunfight between BCl activists and Shibir on 24 August.

The Shah Amanat Hall was closed on January 12 after another fierce clash between BCL and ICS that left a student killed. 

The both halls were dominated by Islami Chhatra Shibir.

However, BCL is controlling Shah Jalal hall at present.
