Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex) has started to extract gas at Shahbazpur Gas Field 3 in Bhola on an experimental basis.
The extraction of gas started at the field on Sunday morning.
Bapex Planning Director Abdul Halim said: “Bapex has completed the drilling works with its own initiative and technology. The extraction work started in the morning.”
He said: “Gas will be extracted from the field formally within a few days.”
Shahbazpur Gas Field was discovered in 1994 and has 865 trillion cubic feet of gas.
Bapex Asisstant Manager Shahdat Hossain said: “So far, 35 trillion cubic feet of gas has been extracted from the field's first and second well. The gas is supplied to the 34.5MW rental power plant of Bhola's Venture Resource Ltd.
