Shamsuzzaman’s son gets life for killing brother

A Dhaka Court has awarded life time imprisonment to actor ATM Shamsuzzaman’s younger son ATM Khalequzzaman Kushol in a case filed for murdering his elder brother.

Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 1 Judge Shahed Nuruddin gave the verdict in the presence of Kushol on Sunday afternoon.

The court also fined him Tk50,000; in default he is to serve one more year in jail.

ATM Shamsuzzaman’s wife and daughter were also present in the court at the time of the verdict.

Earlier on March 13, 2012, Kamaluzzaman Kabir was stabbed to death by his younger brother ATM Khalequzzaman Kushol at their residence in the capital’s Sutrapur.

ATM Shamsuzzman filed a case with Sutrapur police station following the murder.

On June 25, 2012, police submitted the charge sheet, while the court indicted Kushol on October 31, the same year.

On January 30, 2013, ATM Shamsuzzaman gave deposition before the court against his own son Kushol.

“It was the most unfortunate incident that my entire family had witnessed,” ATM Shamsuzzaman said in his deposition.
