Indefinite transport strike in Joypurhat from Monday

District Motor Workers’ Union has called for a transport strike for indefinite period of time from Monday in all routes of Joypurhat district.

According to sources, the organisation will observe the strike demanding a ban on plying of shallow engine-run vehicles including locally-made Nasiman, Kariman, Votvoti and battery-run auto rickshaw on the routes.

Plying of all private-owned vehicles including bus, minibus, coach, truck, tank-lorry, baby taxi, and CNG-run auto rickshaw will remain stopped during the strike.

Confirming the matter, union president Sardar Abdul Hafiz said: “The strike will come to effect at 6am on the day.”

“We have long been demanding to stop plying of all unapproved vehicles; the strike has been called as local administration took no effective measures,” Hafiz added.
