1 killed, 50 injured in Sylhet clash

A person has been killed and some 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups at Shaheb Bazar under Sylhet sadar upzila.

The deceased is Masukur Rahman, 26, son of late Abdul Bari of Dewairbohor village and a member of Shaheb Bazar Social Welfare Association.

Locals said the inhabitants of the area locked into a clash with Krishok Shongram Porishad some days before when the organisation tried to establish supremacy in the area.

They said both the sides locked into another clash today [Friday] over previous feud.

Sylhet Metropolitan police additional commissioner SM Rokon Uddin said: “The locals locked into a clash with the leaders and activists of Krishok Shongram Porishad around 10:30am, leaving Mashukur dead and injuring the others.”

He said: “On information, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.”

Police also detained five people in connection to the incident.
