Businesses, housewives top Hajj pilgrims' list

Over 60% of this year's Hajj pilgrims are business men and housewives, the official information estimated by the government department concerned suggests.

Among the Hajj pilgrims this year, 31% are involved in business, 30% are housewife, 21% are servicemen and 14% are farmers. The remaining 5% have other occupations.

This year the estimated number of pilgrims going for hajj under government management is 1534, while under private arrangement the likely number is estimated to be 97265.

According to the statistics, 51% of the pilgrims are above 40 years of age, while pilgrims over 60 years form 34% of the pie chart. Only 15% of the pilgrims are from below the 40 years segment.

Most of the hajj pilgrims are from Dhaka (42%) and Chittagong (27%).

The first Hajj flight carrying 409 Bangladeshi pilgrims has left Saudi Arabia.

The recent statistics about the pilgrims says, the participation of female has increased in terms of the ratio based on gender.

This year, the ratio of the male among the total number of hajj pilgrims who are going to perform hajj in Saudia Arabia is 68% and the female pilgrims comprise the remaining 32%. Trend shows participation of females have seen a gradual increase, naturally the percentage of the male has been falling over the last few years.

Statistics on Bangladeshi hajj pilgrims 2009-2014 shows this year the number of pilgrims set to perform hajj increased than that of the previous year. However, the number in the last year had decreased from the year before.

Hajj management service under the ministry of religious affairs brought out the statistics in the government web portal.

According to the information given on the web, this year hajj will be held on October 4.

The first flight of hajj pilgrimage is scheduled on Wednesday (August 27).
