More than 100 students of Natore Government Girls' High School have fallen sick after eating snacks served at school canteen on Wednesday morning.
Civil Surgeon Ferdous Nilufar of Natore Sadar Hospital said: "The students felt severe abdomen pain after consuming snacks served at school canteen in the morning."
“Some 70 students were taken to sadar hospital. Of them, some 15 students were admitted to the hospital while the rest took primary treatment,” she said.
Deputy Commissioner Mashiur Rahman said: “We have collected the sample of the cake and it will be sent to Dhaka for test.”
A three-member probe committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kazi Atiur Rahman was formed to investigate the incident.
Mashiur said: “I have directed the probe committee to submit the report within next seven days. Necessary steps will be taken after the probe report is submitted.”
Meanwhile, deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, district education officer and the deputy director of Secondary and Higher Secondary Board, Rajshahi have visited the school and Natore Sadar Hospital.
Umme Fariatul Prema, a class VI student of the school, said, “Snacks were being supplied to the teachers and the students of class III to X. One of the students of class three first felt sick after having the snack. Blue coloured saliva was coming out of her mouth.”
The acting headmaster Mostafizur Rahman left the school premises when the guardians gathered in front of the school in protest to the incident.
The hospital's Resident Doctor Abul Kalam Azad said the students might have fallen sick because of food poisoning.
