Malaysia to compensate 3 Bangladeshi families

The next-of-kin of three Bangladeshi workers who died in the MRT mishap near Sungai Buloh will receive RM25,000 compensation each.

Malaysian Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot made the announcement on Monday, reports The Star of Malaysia.

Richard said the government is in contact with the Bangladesh Embassy in Malaysia and awaiting their verification of the beneficiaries.

"We do not want the money to fall in the wrong hands” the Malaysian minister said.

“We will release the money as soon as the embassy completes its verification."

The minister was talking to the reporters after launching the 17th Conference and Exhibition on Occupational Safety and Health (COSH 2014).

Three Bangladeshi migrant workers were killed in an accident at a construction site in Malaysia on last Monday.

The victims, Mohammad Elahi Hossain, Mohammad Faruk Khan, and Mohammad Alauddin Mallik, were killed after a 300-tonne concrete span collapsed on them at 8.30pm at the construction site of MRT Corp, a Malaysian government company, in Kota Damansara, a township at Petaling district in Selangor state.
