PM to inaugurate Hajj camp Tuesday

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to inaugurate the Hajj camp for the Bangladeshi pilgrims on Tuesday, as the preparations for the camp have been completed.

Hajj Camp Director Mizanur Rahman made the announcement on Monday morning.

He said: “All the preparations of the Hajj camp have been completed and the passengers of the first day flight have already started reporting to the camp.”

On the first day, a total of 419 pilgrims will be flown to Saudi Arabia under the government's management in two flights which are scheduled to fly around 7am and 12pm on Wednesday, he added.

He said the passports will be handed over to the passengers by Monday evening.

Mizanur Rahman said: “Around 419 passengers will be flown to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday and about the same number on Thursday.”

He said three medical teams, five shops and foods on payment system have been set up for the pilgrims at the camp which can accommodate 3,000 passengers at a time.

The officials also said Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Saudi Airlines will carry all the passengers for Hajj.

Biman's flight will start on Wednesday while Saudi Airlines will start carrying the pilgrims from August 31.

Talking about the private management, he said: “Out of 835 agencies, 102 have received bar codes for visa and around 3,000 passengers have already received their visas.”

Out of the total 98,762 pilgrims, 1600 will perform Hajj under the government management while the rest will go under private management.

The return flights will start from October 9 and continue till November 7.
