The cabinet approved the draft of "Power and Energy Fast Supply Enhancement (Amendment) Act 2014" on Monday, extending the tenure of the act to four more years.
Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan briefed reporters after the regular cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the secretariat.
The cabinet decided to extend the law to ensure supply of power and energy keeping pace with increasing demand, he said.
The tenure of the law will expire in October.
The council of ministers also approved the draft of Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council Act 2014, said the cabinet secretary.
The new law would revive the Bangladesh Nursing Council Ordinance-1983.
The ordinance, enacted during military regime, was declared illegal by the Supreme Court in 2010 along with other laws and ordinances of the military rulers. But, as per court order, the cabinet decided to make the law afresh to replace the defunct one.
