Strong current hampers Paturia-Daulatia ferry service

The ferry movement between Paturia and Daulatdia ghat is being hampered continuously on Saturday due to strong current in the river Padma.

The slow movement of ferry service has created serious traffic congestion on both banks of the river, reports BSS.

Hundreds of passenger bus, truck and other vehicles are waiting at the ghat for ferrying, said Bidyut Kumar Saha, Paturia ghat manager of BIWTC.

Moreover, shortage of ferries causes sufferings to the passengers.

The ferry movement is taking more than double time than the normal period due to strong current in the river, he said.

About shortage of ferries, he said a total 13 ferries including seven Ro-Ros, two K-type and four utility are plying at Paturia-Daulatdia route and three ferries are being repaired.

The water level is also rising continuously in the river at the Paturia point which was flowing 10cm above the danger mark on Saturday.

Meanwhile, rising of water level in the river Jamuna, the low lying areas of the char areas of Daulatpur and Shibalaya upazilas have been inundated.

The aman crops and vegetable fields have gone under water, sources said.
