At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Maulana Bhashani Hall unit of Jahangirnagar University over establishing supremacy on the campus on Thursday morning.
University sources said a group of activists of the Maulana Bhashani Hall unit BCL led by Aninda, its general secretary, stormed the rooms of Humayun Kabir, organising secretary of the university unit BCL, Shakil Ahmed, president of the hall unit, and Raknuzzaman Shabuj, member of the unit, chopped three of them and injured their seven room mates around 4:30am.
JU Proctor Dr Tapan Kumar Saha told the Dhaka Tribune that the university authorities sat in a meeting at the registrar office of the university regarding the clash at Moulana Bhashani Hall.
“Injured students have been sent to hospitals. All necessary actions would be taken as soon as possible after an investigation." JU proctor said.
While contacted, JU unit BCL General Secretary Rajib Ahmed Rasel told the Dhaka Tribune: “A faction of Chhatra League launched the attacked on another section. We will take immediate step against the culprits after discussing with our leaders of BCL central committee.”
A tense situation was prevailing on campus after the incident.
