Nat’l youth women’s handball begins today

Dhaka will take on Rangamati in the inaugural match of the Walton Air Conditioner National (Under-19) Youth Women’s Handball Tournament which gets underway at the M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium today.

A total of 18 youth women’s handball team, split into six groups, are participating in the tournament. The first round matches will be held across two venues – Shaheed Suhrawordi Mirpur Indoor Stadium and M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium – before the rest of the tournament (second round, semifinal and final) moves to the latter venue.

Youth and Sports Minister Biren Sikder will inaugurate the tournament as chief guest while title sponsor Walton’s additional director, head of games and sports, FM Iqbal Bin Anwar will be present as the special guest.

The details of the tournament were revealed in a press conference at the Bangabandhu National Stadium conference room yesterday. The champions will receive Tk35000 while the runner-up will get Tk25000 as prize money in the Tk890000 (approximate budget) tournament. Sponsor organization Walton are providing Tk500000.
