Writ challenges legality of national broadcast policy

A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of National Broadcast Policy 2014.

Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond filed the petition on Monday morning.

He urged the court to issue a rule upon the government seeking an explanation to why the broadcast policy should not be declared illegal.

He also requested the court to direct the government to formulate a guideline for talk-shows and other broadcast programmes aired on all private and public electronic television channels.

Akond told the Dhaka Tribune: “The policy violates human and moral rights and the freedom of press. I have filed the petition for the sake of the people.”
