Customs Intelligence officials have detained a person with foreign currencies worth around Tk34 lakh at Shahjalal International Airport in the capital early Sunday.
The detainee is Shoshonkor Mollik, 27. He was going to Malaysia on a flight of Malaysian Airlines.
Customs Intelligence officials challenged Sushan at the boarding bridge area and recovered the foreign currencies around 12:30am.
Nur-e Alam Siddiqui, additional superintendent of Armed Police Battalion, said: “Officials recovered currencies of different countries, including Saudi Riyal, Dirham, Ringgit and Singapore Dollar from his body, shoes and bag.”
He said: “The money might have been smuggled in order to buy gold.”
