The country's Hindu community today will celebrate Janmashtami, marking the birth of Lord Krishna, with festivity and religious fervour. The day is a public holiday.
Different socio-cultural and religious organisations, including Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and Mohanagar Sarbojoneen Puja Committee, chalked out various programmes to mark the day.
The progammes include puja, Geeta Jagna, Kirtan, discussions and peace processions.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the Hindu community on the occasion in separate messages. The traditional Janmashtami procession will be brought out from Dhakeswari Temple. Similar programmes have been chalked out across the country to mark Lord Krishna's birthday.
