Janmashtami festival begins

One of the Hindu community’s biggest religious festivals, Janmashtami, birthday of lord Krishna, has started in the hilly district Bandarban amid different colourful programmes.

Yesterday was the first day of the four-day programme chalked out by the authorities concerned, as part of which a good number of Hindu devotees brought out a grand procession from Rajar Mat of the district town in the morning.

It ended at the starting point after parading thoroughfares.

State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, who was present in the event as chief guest, said the government has been trying its best to make a non-communal Bangladesh so that people from all sects can live in a union peacefully.

In this regard, Bandarban Janmashtami Utsab Udyapan Parishad General Secretary Advocate Sujan Chakrabarty said the district authorities took necessary measures, particularly security, to observe the festival.
