A trader was hacked to death by the former employer of his wife over an extramarital affair at Amlapara in Kushtia town on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Abul Kashem, 40, owner of a bakery and son of late Ibrahim Biswas.
Abdul Khalek, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kushtia model police station, said Azad, a bakery owner, had developed an extramarital relationship with Kashem’s wife while she was working at the former’s food shop named Mouban Sweets in the area.
When Kashem came to know about the affair, he himself set up a bakery in collaboration with his wife.
Azad stabbed Kashem indiscriminately over the issue while he was returning home from his shop around 9:30pm, leaving him critically injured.
Later, Kashem was sent to Kushtia General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police arrested Azad from the Dattapara area of town.
"Azad confessed to killing the businessman," OC Abdul Khalek said.
